About WASCA – TN

 

Indo-German Project Water Security and Climate Adaptation in Rural India (WASCA), is a bi-lateral project commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development(BMZ) in partnership with the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) is implemented by GIZ (Represented by Govt of Germany). The is operational in five states, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and WASCA aims for the following three output areas:

 

  •  Improved convergence of existing planning and financing approaches

  •  Demonstration of convergent planning, financing and implementation and

  • ·Cooperation with the private sector.

WASCA in Tamilnadu identified two most climate vulnerable districts, Ramanathapuram and Tiruvannamali, through a scientific study based on 18 Climate Vulnerable Indicators developed by Centre for Climate Change and Disaster Management (CCCDM- Anna University) supported by GIZ. The project is implemented in 1289 Gram Panchyats through Composite Water Resources Management and Climate Resilience for Future Livelihoods to bring in livelihoods and water security to rural populations through principles if IWRM, SDGs, NDCs through a river sub-basin and watershed approach. Department of Rural Development & Panchyatraj, Government of Tamilnadu is the implementing partner of WASCA. Through MGNREGS, Convergence with state and national schemes, programmes, project WASCA is being implement. GIZ providing Technical Cooperation brining in partners, knowledge and framework through capacity development of government stakeholders.

The State Steering Committee on WASCA is Chaired by Thiru Hans Raj Verma IAS, Additional Chief Secretary and Convenor Dr K. S. Palanisamy IAS, Commissioner RDPR and District Collectors Thiru.Sandeep Nanduri, I.A.S., Collector of Tiruvannamalai District and Thiru.Dinesh Ponraj Oliver, I.A.S., District Collector, Ramanathapuram as Chair Persons of District Level Steering Committee responsible for overall implementation of Indo-German Project – WASCA. The Heads of line departments, CII, Scientific and Research Institutions, NGos are part of State and District Steering Committees.
