Inauguration of Community Managed Village Knowledge Centres in the districts of Sivasagar and Golaghat, Assam

The Village Knowledge Centres (VKC) was inaugurated 15th March 2019 in Dikhoumukh village of Sivasagar District and on 16th in Merapani village of Golaghat District in partnership with Dikhoumukh college and Chawdung Pather, Farmers Producer Company respectively. Dr. S. Lakshmanan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Sivasagar District and Mr. Nobin chandra Bora, District Agriculture Officer has inaugurated the VKCs respectively in Dikhoumukh and Merapani villages.

Closing gender gaps is crucial for food and nutrition security

Empowering women is a key factor towards improving the agricultural productivity and adaptive capacity of smallholders in India.

Women on smallholder farms in developing countries face multiple constraints compared to their male counterparts, among other things, under paid farm work in addition to bearing the burden of care and reproductive roles within the family and community. They are in many cases deprived of land ownership, access to markets, key assets and inputs, and are frequently excluded from decision-making.

Building the capacities of the team members on facilitating Village Knowledge Centres for Knowledge Management

Dissemination of information, knowledge and skills through Village Knowledge Centre (VKC) is the core strategy in the project under Knowledge Management. An initiative was taken to build the capacities of the Project staff of Odissa and Assam between 13th to 16th February 2019. The main objective of the programme is to induct and train them on the concept, key processes and activities in establishing and facilitating the VKCs as a platform for Knowledge Management.
